Pan Macmillian Publisher of the Year

Pan Macmillan UK is one of the largest general book publishers in the UK. Originally Macmillan was founded in 1843 by Daniel and Alexander Macmillan and through the years have published such greats as Lewis Carroll, Thomas Hardy, Rudyard Kipling and H. G. Wells through to some of today’s biggest authors with Kate Mosse Joe Wicks, David Baldacci and Julia Donaldson amongst many others.

Not content with resting on past successes through, Pan Mac is a really forward looking company and part of this strategy is competing to win the Publisher of the year Award, run by The Bookseller, the Nibbies as they are known.

I’ve worked with Pan Mac for a number of years on this application, a brochure that tells of their successes over the year. I think Pan Mac understand that winning this award, which they have won twice in three years, not only gives them kudos within the industry but also gives all their staff a badge of honour. They are really proud of the work their staff do and it is the staff themselves that are the focus of the brochures.

In the past we have had the staff in interacting with paper engineered sets and we’ve have them amongst the monsters and characters of Chris Riddel’s (2015-2017 UK Children's Laureate) charming drawings. In 2017 though we chose to rein in the complications and commision the very talented Kenny McCracken (http://www.kennymccracken.com/) to take a series of more intimate portraits of some of the staff. The result is a much more personal feeling piece of communication, with which they won the award again.
